Sociology serves as a vital tool for understanding global social, cultural, political, and economic changes. In today’s context of rapid technological advancement, sociology has evolved in new directions. Moreover, the social sciences remain a core force in addressing real-world societal challenges, making the cultivation and development of talent in related disciplines such as psychology, media studies, and education critically important. This course curriculum especially centers on HKU’s Education and Social Sciences disciplines, covering majors such as education, psychology, and media studies, laying foundational knowledge for related university major studies. Additionally, instructors will provide theoretical insights and case analyses focused on topics such as sociology and social work, developments in education and educational psychology, as well as international relations and public administration. Through final project presentations and case study discussions, students will gain a deep understanding of the fundamental knowledge in education and the social sciences, as well as the latest trends in these fields. The program also includes academic visits, where students will tour the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, as well as relevant institutions to explore the frontline practice in the field of social sciences.
